How can I get better gas mileage out of my 1995 dodge Dakota truck with the 3.9 v6 engine?

My Truck has 118,000 miles on it and it is in excellent mechanical condition. I just want to try to get better gas mileage since gas is $3.85 a gallon were I live. My truck is not a everyday driver. Would changing to a better oil help? Maybe a Synthetic or blend.|||a synthetic oil will help it some, one of the best things you can do for it is change the air filter to a k%26amp;n air filter, they do help on gas mileage, that and drive it easy, and keep the engine tuned really well, and keep all the tires aired up to what they should be at,that helps a lot, other than that, just drive it easy and dont do any jack rabbit starts in it,that will help you save on gas, those only get around 20 or so when their running right, some will do a little better, synthetic oil does help a small amount, maybe enough to notice ,good luck with it.|||your welcome, that should help it a lot,i change mine about every six months, and my car maintains a steady 30 miles to the gallon, sometimes better, depending on the weather, good luck.

|||Just keep the maintenance up and your driving habits are the biggest things you can do. No magic oil or air filter or exhaust will change your mileage maybe a few tenths. No matter what you are told. I have tried exhaust and air filters and had no change in mileage. The only thing that changed was my wallet got lighter trying things and I could of spent that money on gas You can spend alot of money and get nothing..........UJN|||it really depends on what you want to spend. i know a cold air intake will help you out. and a programmer. it did wonders for my truck. new spark plugs and wires will improve it a little but as for the oil, its not really gonna help. its always good to keep it changed thou. you need to watch your speed and dont haul butt when you are at a stop sign or red light and watch how you use your breaks. well thats all i know that you can do. hope it helps|||Synthetic oil definitely makes a difference. I have a 96 Dodge Ram Van with the 5.2 V8, I saw an extra 3mpg by switching to Mobil-1 Truck/SUV synthetic oil.

Drive slowly and carefully. My 5500lb van with the V8 hits 16mpg city with careful driving.|||trade the POS in and get a chevy or be like every one else and get a honda or some shitty import face it you have a truck its gonna drink gas and you have a 3.9 V6 i have a 3.8 V6 camaro i get 16-20 mpg|||drive slower|||dont take off really fast.

dont slam on your brakes ever

drive slower
