tiny cars with puny engines are good on gas mileage.skinny tyres n slippery aero design also helps attain high mileage.
softroaders like Honda CR-V,Nissan X-trail,Hyundai SantaFe,Suzuki Grand Vitara,Jeep Liberty are more efficient than the big full size trucks.also most of these are now available with diesel motors,which are very cheap to run.(though diesels require high maintenance)
