What kind of gas mileage would I get in 4wd high in my 2006 Tacoma trd ?

On wet roads will little weight in the bed of my truck I thought about using the H4 (4wd high) setting. Is that going to destroy my gas mileage or be bad on my truck or will it only kick in if my wheels are slipping?|||You can get away with it every once in a while but the main downside is the stress it puts on the drive line and tires. 4-hi isn't usually helpful on wet surfaces unless it's something steep and slimy you can't climb in 2wd. Otherwise, wet pavement usually offers plenty of grip so 4wd ends up getting in the way. On every turn, the front and back tires will fight each other and can cause the truck to shuffle around corners while wearing the tires rapidly.

If you travel in a completely straight line, you'll only experience the power/mpg loss of the extra spinning drive train components which might drag you down 10-30% (I think mine's closer to 30).

If there are a lot of curves, you'll experience quite a bit of extra drag--you could lose 50% or more of your power and fuel economy.

Save 4-Hi for snow, sand, etc.|||Being in 4H all the time will affect your gas mileage by about 10%, as opposed to being in 2wd.

It isn't bad for the truck at all. You could be in 4H all of the time, if you wanted. You will just get slightly worse mpg.|||I think it will break your truck. Read your manual.
