Do alloy wheels really get better gas mileage?

I've heard that alum-alloy wheels give you better gas mileage than steel because they're lighter. Makes sense, but I'm wondering if anyone has switched from steel to alloy and had it make enough of a gas mileage difference for them to notice it. Wondering whether the gas money I'll save over time is anywhere comparable to the cost of buying new wheels.Do alloy wheels really get better gas mileage?
Any weight reduction will have an impact on gas mileage, especially rotating weight (mass, technically), but I'd be very surprised if the difference was enough to notice going from steel to alloy.

Consider that your vehicle weighs at least 3000 lbs, while the weight savings is at most a few pounds per wheel. Less than 1% change in weight.....
Steel wheels weight more. So if you lighten the car you will get better mileage. At the most you will gain a couple miles more. Which you will not notice unless you keep a check on the miles you drive. The best mileage come when the vehicle is kept top running condition. And the proper air is kept in the tires. Also the grade of gas used will give better mileage. Because the car run better.Do alloy wheels really get better gas mileage?
just do what everyone said and make sure you have a good wheel bearings and coast also, just dont put your tranny in reverse by mistake though. Most cars you have to press a button to get into reverse anyway. Everyone in Europe coasts in neutral. Car companies here say its bad for your car but its not, they just dont want you to burn less fuel since they are in it with the automakers. You can coast downhill or when you are about to make a stop. Use momentum, its free energy.
probably a marketing gimmick to sell after market parts

the only way you would get better gas mileage would be to downgrade to a smaller size wheel

then you might see a slight bit difference

or possibly take out your spare tire and tools from your trunk and replace it with a can of fixflat or w/eDo alloy wheels really get better gas mileage?
Alloy wheels are lighter than steel wheels and they conduct heat better which means they dissipate heat from the brakes better.

Alloy wheels are usually either Aluminum alloy or Magnesium alloy (mag wheels).

Mag wheels are lighter than aluminum wheels.

But the difference in miles per gallons would not be that much to offset the cost...
Are the wheels the same width, and if so, and they are lighter, then yes, you will get better fuel mileage, but not good enough to see.

The best way to achieve proper fuel mileage is tire psi.

But we all know Alloy rims look better than steel, so go for it.
not much. dont think it will be noticable. unless the steel wheels weigh 500 pounds. and i doubt that. u might save 10 pounds switching. depending on the wheels
