I have a 2006 Mazdaspeed 6. I heard that the higher the RPMs, the more gas you use so, what I do on the road is shift pretty early so the rpms don't get too high. Is this bad? I've read that this is called engine lugging and is not good. Also, I tend to skip gears.
So, what is the best way to get good gas mileage in my car?|||You're probably doing fine unless the engine IS being lugged. You can easily tell when you're lugging it. as the engine will rumble, shake, and in some cases, start pinging.
If it's running smoothly and not shaking, you're not lugging it.|||drive like a nanna
easy on throttle, anticipate stops (look ahead), up change early. try and maintain a constant speed|||their are many different things you could do... I work for a leading car parts store and the first thing we recommend is a high flow air filter like K %26amp; N.. they can give you better milage by increasing the air flow but it can cause the car to run like crap for a couple minutes till the mass air flow sensor tells the ECU to adjust to the new air flow.. and when cleaning and refreshing the oil *do not over oil it* the excess oil can be drawn into the mass airflow sensor.. and ruin it..
with your car being a 2006...be vary carfulll and drive the speed limits and don't "slug" the car you can fowl plugs and cause a miss fire which will use more gas to compensate the one or 2 bad plugs|||Keep the engine tuned up, with a new air filter.... keep the tires filled to within 5 pounds of the maximum pressure listed on the side of the tire.|||You can do several very simple things to maximise your mileage.Always make sure your tyres are at the correct pressures.Make sure that your brakes are adjusted properly and do not bind. Also blow out your air cleaner filter or replace it if needed.Check that your transmission is lubed to the correct level.Avoid driving with windows down .Keep your luggage to a minimum.Make that the tracking/alignment is spot on.Keep your engine in tune. And service it regularly.Check your ignition timing is correct. Also check the spark plugs are set at the right gap.One more point keep your exhaust system in good repair. No leaks.Mileage can be gained by fitting larger wheels this cuts revs slightly.
